On May 27, 2012 our lives were changed forever.
Madison Rose Pierce (11 years old) along with her brother Quinnton and a friend (both 12 years old) were riding in the pasture on a Polaris Ranger. "None of the kids were wearing helmets."
The adults had been in the house for a brief moment and when they came out were met by Quinnton running toward them across the field. He had a huge gash on his head and was crying for them to come get Madison. They found Madison and the friend by the Ranger. It had flipped over on top of Madison. All three had head injuries. Madison passed away in the early hours of the next morning.
The shock and pain were overwhelming, but unfortunately this type of story happens all too often. We think "I won't need a helmet this time because I will only ride for a few minutes." or "This won't happen to me." Well, that is wrong. Madison lost her life after approximately 10 minutes on the ATV. And it can happen to you, it did to us. One minute Madison was playing, giggling and full of life; the next minute she was gone.
